Description:
This is a simple process to convert ironrich slag into magnetic materials for use in multiple commercial applications. The magnetic materials may be prepared as permanent magnets or soft magnets. The process includes high?energy/mechanical milling or mechanical alloying of slag in the presence of additives (e.g., cobalt (Co), barium (Ba), nickle (Ni), etc.) Optional heart treatment may be used depending on the type/magnetic strength of magnetic material desired. The output from such a process usually takes the form of amorphous, nanocomposite and nanocrystalline powders comprising magnetic components in a non?magnetic oxide matrix originally present in the slag. The magnetic component may include ferrite/magnetic nanocomposite while the non?magnetic oxide matrix may include silicon oxide, calcium oxide, aluminum oxide, etc. The additives may be selectively used to influence the substitution of iron in the nanocomposite.

Waste Management: Convert iron?rich slag into magnetic materials Recycling metal ore: Magnetic nanocomposite materials to multiple commercial applications
