His Excellency Dr Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart visits

Chief Scientific Adviser of the State Council of Cuba His Excellency Dr Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart called on NUS to gain insights into the University’s research strategies and development. Accompanying Dr Castro Diaz-Balart on his visit were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba, His Excellency Mr Jorge Leon Cruz and Non-Resident Ambassador of Singapore to Panama and Cuba, Her Excellency Mrs Mary Seet-Cheng.

During the visit, Dr Castro Diaz-Balart met with NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost, Prof Tan Eng Chye; Dean of the Faculty of Science and Co-Director of the NUS Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Initiative, Prof Andrew Wee, as well as Chairman of the Management Board of the Interactive and Digital Media Institute, Prof Hang Chang Chieh and Director of the Centre for Maritime Studies, Prof Bernard Tan. Dr Castro Diaz-Balart later visited the Energy Studies Institute which aims to advance the understanding of local, regional and global energy issues.

While in Singapore, Dr Castro Diaz-Balart also met with Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo.
