The NUS Membrane Consortium is a vibrant community of individuals and organisations including researchers, companies and policy makers that are interested and committed to development of the membrane sector in Singapore. It was established by the NUS Industry Liaison Office to allow consortium members to come together to engage each other in discussions, to network and to keep abreast of the latest developments in membrane technologies, and to find opportunities for research collaboration and business partnering.
NUS hosts several membrane research groups, some of which are among the largest in the world. These groups focus on major research areas including Energy, Environment, Water and Life Sciences. Leading the groups are some of the most prolific researchers in the membrane field, including Prof Neal Chung, A/Prof Ng How Yong and Prof Seeram Ramakrishna. These researchers and their teams have contributed significantly to the development of new membrane technologies and applications. The setting up of the Membrane Consortium is in line with NUS' commitment to lead the advancement of this important field.
NUS has collaborated with major international and local companies. Some of its key partners in the membrane field include local companies like Hyflux as well as international companies like BASF and Mitsui Chemicals. Through its partnerships and collaborations with the industry, NUS aims to bring new membrane technologies to bear for the benefit of the society.
